2011 "Country Loop" and Denny's Brunch

On Monday, members of the EHS Boys and Girls Cross-Country Teams continued their annual tradition of running "Country Loop" on Labor Day and attending breakfast/Lunch at Denny's after. Results of the run can be found in Coach P's Notes. Thank you to all of the parents and Alumni Members that assisted with the run, including: Luke Bertels, Devon Dudding, Diane Dudding, Keith Dudding, Michael Hines, Mrs. Pyarali, Lindsay Shaw, and Scott Shaw. This is truly one of my favorite workouts of the year, especially with all of the parents and former athletes that come out to assist us. Thanks!This is the first year that members of the girls team joined the boys for "Country Loop". The ladies were limited to eight miles this year, but earned the opportunity for ten next season. Just after the mile mark, Diane Dudding captures John Brandenburg, Sarah Smith, Lizzie Anderson, and Erica Bailey.
Just after the three mile mark for runners running the full ten mile "Country Loop" are Chandler Reed, Zach Bertels, and Prakash Kandula.
MMMMMMMMMM....Love that Denny's! After a hard run, Ryker Frohock, Zach Bertels, Brad Wever, Zach Gabel, Lizzie Lynn, Allie Sweatt, and Sarah Smith enjoy some good food and even better company!
At the "Senior's Table" are Caden Cramsey, Joel Burroughs, Austin Abegg, Lizzie Anderson, Brendan Colligan, Garrett Sweatt, Brianna Chamberlain, Steffan West, and Courtney Lybarger. More than 30 current athletes and 14 parents/family members/alumni members attended Denny's after the run! If I did not mention it already, I love my Cross-Country Family!

Tom Atwood Captures Members of the EHS Girls Team at Granite City

Here are a few great shots of the ladies by Tom Atwood. Again, Tom it is a pleasure to see how your skills have developed over the years. We all love and appreciate your photos.Competing in her first meet of the season, Sophomore Allie Sweatt leads the Tigers with a 12th place finish at the Granite City Invitational on Saturday.
Edwardsville senior Courtney Lybarger ran a great race for the Tigers as she finished in 20th place on Saturday. Courtney was the number two finisher for the Tigers.
In her first major invitational as a member of the Tigers, Freshman Lizzy Lynn finshes in 33rd place to help the Tigers finish fifth on Saturday.

Tiger freshman Erica Bailey battles through her first high school invitational on Saturday, finishing in 60th place. Good job ladies!

Today I will start off with some photos taken by Tom Atwood. Tom has really mastered capturing the drama and emotion of a cross-country race. Thank you Tom for your efforts. Edwardsville Junior, Chad Maxwell, overcomes a difficult week of practice to finish 5th at the Granite City Invitational and played a key role in the Tiger's victory.
Just his second high school race and freshman Brydon Groves-Scott looks like a veteran. Brydon finished in 21st place in his first major high school invitational.

Meet: 2011 Kickoff Meet

When: Saturday, August 27, 2011

Location: Belleville West High School

Directions: Take I-255 South to Route 15 in Belleville. Stay on Route 15 until your reach Frank Scott Park Way. Turn left on Frank Scott Parkway and you will see the Belleville West campus. The course is located behind the school.

Teams: Belleville East, Belleville West, Edwardsville, Mascoutah, O'Fallon

Departure from EHS: 7:00 A.M.

Race Times:
--Girls: 9:00 A.M.
--Boys: 9:40 A.M.

Return to EHS: Approximately 12:00 P.M.

Lunch: Some members of the EHS Team plan on going to Imo's when we get back to Edwardsville. Please give your son/daughter money if they are planning on attending lunch. Lunch is optional and cost is on you.

On Wednesday, the EHS Boys and Girls Cross-Country Teams competed in the first ever EHS Coed-Intrasquad Meet. Thank you Valerie for all of the photos. You can see more on Valerie Sweatt's Facebook Page. Here is a picture of the start. Garrett, who got out to an early lead, won the event. His sister, Allie, was the first female finisher.
Your 2011 EHS Coed Intrasquad Team Champioion is Team Pink. Five teams competed, with Tie Dye(Diversity) and Zach Bertles in 5th, Team Black and Michael Stubbban in 4th, Team Teal/Denim with Caden Cramsey in 3rd with 116 points, Team Red and Garrett Sweatt in 2nd with 110 points, and Team Pink and Austin Abegg with 106 points.

Official Practice Kicks Off With The 2011 French Fry Run

Geordan Patrylak is busy filling up 40 cups with water for stop number three of the french fry run. Geordan was also responsible for most photos taken at McDonalds.
No, Garrett Sweatt is not holy, but we did say "Holy Cow" with his winning performance in the french fry run. With a belly full of fries, Garrett covered the slightly more than six miles at a 5:34 pace!!!!
EHS senior, Caden Cramsey, appears to be struggling at this point of the course while in McDonald's. Although Caden looks rough, Jay was the only one to get sick in a restaurant (sorry Vickie)!

Good help is hard to find, but even harder to keep in line. Kira Patrylak, helping out at the chute for the first time this season, is in charge of keeping Larry Thompson and Keith Dudding under control. Actually, I would like to thank everyone who helped out with the Regional Meet, which we co-hosted with Granite City. First off, thank you to Richard Skirball (Sr. and Jr.) for the idea of us hosting at Granite and their help with course set-up. Thank you to Dan and Joan Abegg. Dan did a tremendous job as Vice President of Cross-Country this season. They also helped set up and manage the concession stand and t-shirt sales. Our professional timing and chute management team of Dudding and Thompson were also present at the finish line. It means a lot to me that our program has had such a positive impact in the lives of our athletes and their families that parents such as Larry and Keith come back and help out even though their children now attend major universities. I would also like to thank the Maxwells, Dennis Cramsey, and all other parents that volunteered on Saturday. I apologize if I missed anyone. You guys are the best!!!

Members of the Boys Varsity squad finished second on Friday. Racing for the Tigers are Garrett Sweatt, Chad Maxwell, Austin Abegg, Andrew Patterson, Michael Gorsage, Ryker Frohock, and Caden Cramsey.

I picked this photo because it is one of my favorite "running families." Included are Allie, Eli, Valerie, Garrett, and Willie at last year's state meet.
I chose this picture because I am impressed with how hard Ryker has been working and the amount of improvement he has shown so far this year.
This picture is from about two years ago from the Edwardsville Invite. Showing off their medals are: Brendan Colligan, Eli Sweatt, Devon Dudding, Daniel Mazar, Chris "Texas" Taglieri, Garrett Sweatt, and Tyler Cann.
I am biased, because of the families involved, but this picture shows "The Cannlaks." By the way, did you know that I beat Coach P. in the only Soda Mile we competed in!!!!!

I wanted to thank all of the parents that helped make the 2010 Tiger Fall Classic a huge success. I appreciate all of your help. Keith Dudding not only timed the first three races of the day and helped with the finish, he had enough energy to run in the JV Boys meet as well. If this doesn't look tiring enough, Keith was with Dan Abegg and Coach P until after 8:00 p.m. at the course cleaning up. Pictured with Keith is Jack Cann.
What an improvement in one year. Sophomore Ryker Frohock finishes the first Varsity Cross-Country race of his career. Ryker was our 4th man, finishing 15th overall and winning his first ever varsity medal! Congrats on your first of many!!!

Wow, what a group.....taking time from their busy college schedules to support their former programs and, in some cases, battle in the open are members of the EHS Alumni: Eli Sweatt, Riley Atwood, Tony Thompson, Greg Dunn, Daniel Mazar (not an official member), Tyler Cann, Chris Taglieri, and Luke Bertels.

Garrett is all focus as he is less than 100 meters from the finish. Garrett's time of 14:58.8 was a new meet record by 13 seconds (breaking the record set by former Tiger Dustin Davis) and a course record by 7 seconds. Our running farmily has grown so much, we took up a pavilion, three tables outside, and other various regions of the park. Members of the boys and girls team have a good time as they enjoy their food.

The six EHS athletes pictured above competed against the best track & field teams from all the large schools in Illinois Saturday--and came in fourth in the state. Six athletes--Shanice Rice, Laila Jason, Hannah Faulkner, Meih Huddleston, Lauren White and Emmonnie Henderson. Each one brought home at least one medal. Shanice Rice brought home four, and Freshman Emmonnie Henderson came back with an individual state championship in the shot put.
